Beadsmoore, Joseph Luther, Private, 6023847, 2nd Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment

Joseph was one of ten children of Walter (1888-1943) and Abigail (née Martin, 1889-1954) Beadsmoore. The family moved in to Spondon sometime between 1911 and 1914, with Joseph born shortly after on 5 June 1915 and baptised at St Werburgh’s Church on 21 July 1918. In 1939, Joseph was living with his parents and five of his siblings at 71 Dale Road, working as a fitter’s mate.

He was killed in Egypt on 10 December 1940, possibly when taking part in the Battle of Sidi Barrani against the Italians. He is buried in Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery, Egypt (plot 7, G, 7)

His name is mis-spelt on the memorial, as is that of Granville Trevor Cordon.
